In an effort to offset some of the school district’s budgetary deficiency caused by the State of Texas’s funding cut of $2.5 million per year, Superintendent Ted Moore will be recommending at tonight’s school board meeting that the LISD Board of Trustees begin allowing a limited number of transfer students to attend Lovejoy schools and pay tuition.
“Considering that we continue to grow and that we are opening a sixth campus this fall, we have to make adjustments to continue to offer the programs that are serving your sons and daughters so well,” Superintendent Ted Moore said in his weekly Email Express to parents and the community. “We do not plan to hire any new staff to accommodate transfers so only a few of our open seats will be available for possible transfer.”
In order for a transfer student to be accepted, they must have passed all classes in their previous school, be clear of any serious disciplinary infractions, and have a passing score on their state assessments. In addition, a transfer student’s admission could be revoked at any time during the year for lack of attendance or disciplinary issues.
Moore will also be recommending that the annual tuition for grade K-6 students be set at $8,000 with grade 7-12 students being $10,000. In addition, the district will also receive around $8,000 in state funding for each transfer student (as it does for resident students), generating either $16,000 or $18,000 for the district overall.
Moore sees the transfer option, officially named Limited Open Enrollment with Tuition, as the best solution for the district to continue offering students programs with the current level of support, while avoiding charging extracurricular participation fees that other districts have resorted to, and avoiding a tax increase.
If the recommendation is approved, Moore will provide additional information about the transfer process to the community on Wednesday, June 26. The information will also be available on the district website.
Those interested in the transfer option should contact Cindy Booker at 469-742-8003.

This is stupid. Selective choice. Just charge all students tuition and it will solve you problem with money Ted.
