Rita’s offers alternative to ice cream

Rita’s is a custard place that offers an alternative to ice cream and snow cones.

When summer rolls around, snow cones and ice cream are consumed often. Often enough, however, ice cream begins to get old, and snow cones lose their appeal.

Rita’s is an alternative to both ice cream and snow cones. Rita’s serves italian ice, with many different flavors, ranging from vanilla to sour patch kids. Italian ice is a very soft form of a snow cone. It resembles a slushie but  is slightly more solid.

In addition to Rita’s italian ice, they serve custard in three flavors; chocolate, vanilla, and mixed. You can eat the custard by itself, you can layer the italian ice and custard, or you can mix them together and add chunks of candy.

The official names of these treats are italian ice, cream ice, sugar free italian ice, sundaes, gelatis(which is the italian ice layered with custard), misto (which is the blend of both italian ice and custard), and Blendini (which is the same as a misto but with added “Mix-N”).

Brooks Lescher
Brooks Lescher, Staff Reporter
Brooks Lescher is a four-time returning average student at Lovejoy High School. He spends his free time with his woes making mixtapes and playing Lacrosse. He stands at a modest six-foot-four feet tall and uses his height to his benefit in athletics, however he is still only a subpar athlete. Brooks is the least favorite child in the family and embraces it to his best ability. He plans on spending most of his senior year writing modest newspaper columns and studying the great works of Shakespeare to expand his belittling vocabulary. Even though he is interested in expanding his vocabulary, Brooks is unaware of what the word modest means so if you see the word, please just assume that it is used incorrectly. One day Brooks hopes to murk money mayweather, acquire the lightweight champion title, grab some endorsement and then finally retire. Brooks will spend the remaining years of his life watching pitch perfect on re-run and hosting a cappella competitions in his basement. He frequently goes to starbucks, ordering excessive cream in his coffee to match with his ever so creamy outfits. Lastly, Brooks is on the come up in the twittersphere so please give him a follow @BrooksLescher.

Jessica Parrott is a senior, meaning she not only runs the sports section of The Red Ledger, but also the school. With her best friend and fellow staff member Julia Carder by her side, Jessica is going to make this year the best yet. Her favorite sport to cover is football, not only does she love the game but she also loves the boys. Nah, just kidding… slightly. As a senior, Jessica knows that she can literally do anything she wants. Anything. Her favorite saying is “Lord love a duck,” a frequent exclamation made when people do appalling things. She is hoping to attend either Texas Tech or Texas A&M but is also considering Baylor, Oklahoma State, and Arkansas. Ya never know though. She is obsessed with both Friday Night Lights and Gossip Girl, two drastically different shows. The way to her heart is a large Diet Coke from McDonald’s and cabana bowl from Taco Cabana. She is from Boerne, Texas, a suburb outside of San Antonio and she believes to this day that it is the closest to heaven on earth you can get, it’s the Hill Country, it doesn’t get much better. She loves riding boots, flowy tops, and her Texas James Avery ring. Thanks and Gig ‘em, Wreck ‘em, Sic ‘em, Go Pokes, Woo Pig! She’ll let ya know when she decides on a school ;)
