The summer of 2023 featured new movies and music. From “The Summer I Turned Pretty” to Taylor’s Version of “Speak Now,” it was unforgettable.

Summer 2023 was full of new movies, shows and songs. Films such as “The Little Mermaid,” “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” hit the box office with a bang. We finally received the highly anticipated second season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” In July, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” was released hitting number one on the Billboards 200 within an hour. Let’s dive deeper into this summer’s hits!

Starting off strong, the dual release of “Barbenheimer” caught my attention immediately when I first heard about it. It was cool to see both films come together even though they were drastically different from the get go. I didn’t see “Oppenheimer,” but I thought “Barbie” was such a fun movie. The movie brought fun, cheer and pink together with a heartfelt mother daughter relationship at its center. Some people think it got a little too political, but I disagree. I think it was meant to catch people’s attention on certain issues. Overall, it was a great movie for all ages. From what I have heard, that is the opposite of “Oppenheimer.” The movies still came together in a way that made them both do very well in theaters.

Next, is the new season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty.” Since the first episode of this series, there is still a lingering debate over team Conrad or Jeremiah. This debacle has been the main argument over this series, but I think we should be focusing on how different the show is compared to the book. Season one followed the book very well, and it was cool to see it come to life with some of my favorite characters. Season two seemed completely different. There were moments that were similar, but the amount of extra storylines that were not originally in the show were insane. Despite this, the show was perfect to watch with friends on a summer night, no matter how cringy it was.

Lastly, let’s get into some music! On July 7th, Taylor Swift shook the world yet again. While on tour, she released her newest re-recorded album “Speak Now (Taylors Version).” Even though her re-releases are basically the same songs, with a couple extra songs called ‘vault tracks,’ the album sounded better than ever. My new favorite vault song was ‘I can see you’ with the music video featuring Taylor Lautner. Additionally, Olivia Rodrigo also has been coming out with some new music, and announced her new album “Guts” comes out September 8th. The song she released in June, ‘Vampire,’ was controversial but most people love it, including me. It’s so different from her first album, “Sour” and it shocked me when I first listened to it in the best way. The beats in this song are unlike any other and will grab your attention immediately.

Overall, these pieces made the summer of 2023 unforgettable in their own ways.
