Pancakes with sweet original syrup poured over the top; a thick cut of Meatloaf made with tomatoes, onions and green peppers. It sounds good to many people on campus and within the next year it will be available to everybody as a new Cracker Barrel is coming to Allen.
“The last time I ate at Cracker Barrel was about two weeks ago,” freshman Tess Mair said. “I am so excited for one to open closer to home.”
Cracker Barrel fans currently have to trek all the way to Mesquite to fulfill their cravings at one of these franchises. But this summer that will change as a new Cracker Barrel will open in front of the Walmart on Exchange Parkway in Allen.
“I am so excited to eat the biscuits, I hearake you want to slap your mama they are so good,” freshman Mykenzie Rogers The franchise includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus though all three are available at any time during store hours. Cracker Barrel offers a variety of meals including vegetarian meals and low-calorie options.
“I can’t wait for the pancakes,” freshman Hannah Nichols said. “They are so warm and sweet.”
Although they are most commonly know for, what some may say delicious, breakfast items, the menu ranges from yogurt and muffins to pancakes and sausage.
“I really like the muffins and yogurt,” freshman AnnMarie Barfield said. “I also love the bacon and pancakes. The breakfast food is so good!”
Others prefer the lunch or dinner options. According to the Cracker Barrel website Grilled Chicken Tenderloin, and the Country Ham n’ Biscuits are their most popular lunch and dinner dishes.
“The chicken and dumplings are the best,” Rogers said.
Along with the country themed restaurant, each Cracker Barrel features an old ‘general store’ where old fashion trinkets and holiday themed merchandise is sold.
“I think the general store is really cute, it’s a nice place for us to go like shop,” Mair said. “I’m a country girl at heart and I really think that it adds to the place.”
Another thing that adds to the atmosphere of the store is the old country rockers on the wrap around porch. The franchise also has a game on each table, allowing customers to play with while waiting for their food.
“I am most excited to play checkers there,” Rogers said. “I love how they always have the little checker games set out to play games with before your food comes out.”
All of this many students look forward to arriving in town.
“I am so ready for it to open,” Mair said.
