Dozens of students will be camping out this weekend. But rather than a trip to the wilderness, they will be heading to the football field for the 5th annual Cardboard Box City.
A yearly fundraiser to benefit Collin County’s Family Promise, the event is designed to give students and the community a tiny glimpse of what it’s like to be without a home. With nothing more than cardboard boxes for a shelter, students spend one night without a bed in an attempt to raise awareness to the problem of homelessness.
In order to take part in Cardboard Box City, students must pay $30 and bring their own box. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. Saturday and ends at 7:00 a.m. Sunday.
