Two of the five robotics teams who competed at state on Saturday, Feb. 22, broke a school record by qualifying for the worlds championships. The teams, 1082A and 1082B, will compete in Louisville, KY on April 22.
“It is beyond incredible,” robotics teacher Josh Strickland said. “It is something that is worthy of celebrating.”
The students include seniors Hasif Shaikh, Anthony Ciletti, Jacob Bluestein, Ross Walenciak, Brenden Diaz, Carissa Dresser, Kasra Abdi, David Logan and Chase Barnes, and junior PK Kotra. Both of the teams have qualified for state multiple times before with 1082A qualifying three times, and 1082B qualifying seven times. Team 1082B ended with the second highest skills score at state.
“I’m really excited to go to worlds,” senior 1082B team captain Chase Barnes said. “I’ve put in a lot of sleepless nights, and I plan to put much more work in hopes of doing well at worlds.”
Both teams are finding new ways to improve for the world championships. They are planning to grow in both build and strategy.
“We’re choosing a good discovered [skills] route,” senior on team 1082A Jake Bluestein said, “but we’re going to make modifications to make it even better for our bot.”
