A digital boot camp will be held for all ninth and tenth graders to help them become more “familiar with the different digital tools [they] use” repeatedly throughout the school year. The camp will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 22, directed by librarian Emma McDonald.
The ninth graders will be participating from sixth to eighth period, while tenth graders will be participating from periods one through three. For both sessions, students will meet in the cafeteria and the gym. Although the eleventh and twelfth graders don’t have a scheduled session, they will also be introduced into this program later in the year.
“Our goal behind the digital boot camp is to provide specific detailed training to students in a variety of tools and skills,” McDonald said.
Students will need to bring headphones to use during the training.
The boot camp will be centered around a game called “Digital Hero Academy,” where some games will happen at the school and others will happen inside the game’s digital world. As students receive their training, they will also have the chance to earn badges and work their way up the game’s leaderboard. Although the boot camp session will only happen on Tuesday, the games and training will be available all year for all students.
“The boot camp will provide a foundation to all students in the skills they need to be successful in school, college, and later in life as we live more and more in a digital community,” McDonald said.
