About every one in seven people who enter a hospital need blood, and every pint of blood can save about three lives. On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Allen Event Center is hosting both a blood drive and a health fair to increase health awareness through local providers, and help others make better health choices.
The blood drive is sponsored by the Carter Blood Care, which supports many local donor centers in Texas. Carter Blood Care collects and distributes blood and also offers medical support for patients which is always in need.
“It’s always important to have a lot of blood in the blood centers, because in case of accidents or anything like that,” school nurse Jeannie Haines said. “Blood is also used a lot in surgeries and a lot in hospitals. They are also a good way to raise awareness, people may decide to donate more often.”
