Every other year, the Majestics Dance team goes on a trip to perform in contests or for entertainment to specific crowds. In February, the team will be performing for a week on a Royal Caribbean Cruise, venturing to Belize, Honduras and Cozumel.
“I want it to be something spectacular, something that would add value back to our program because the team has grown so substantially this year,” Majestics director Fela Lowrance said.
Lowrance finds these opportunities by looking up performances specifically for high school drill teams, and in this case, it is on a cruise ship.
They will be performing the same show they will perform at the Spring Show towards the end of the year. The style of the performance is non-stop, meaning there is no intermission. This is something the Majestics have never done, which is why they have been preparing for this since summer.
“We don’t really have an offseason like other sports do; we practice every morning, no matter the season,” sophomore Lexi Seay said. “We run through the show numbers every day during practice, along with kicking and stretching. I think it will prepare us a lot better for the cruise, as well as the spring show.”
The Spring Show is in May, and a few more numbers will be added after the cruise performance.
“I hope all of the hard work we’ve put into this makes us a stronger and more advanced team,” junior Rachel Segal said.
