Stranger Things, one of the world’s most beloved shows, recently released the full contents of season 5, and the reviews are mixed. The controversial ending has left viewers in shock, sparking potential theories about a new episode being released.
Viewers previously speculated over the latest episode and made a theory that a new episode should have come out on January 7th. This is called the “Conformity Gate”. This theory states that the last episode wasn’t the real ending and it was an illusion created by Vecna, the villain in the Stranger Things show. This came about from fans noticing details in the background, the way the characters were acting, and slight changes in character’s memories. This theory became widespread over many social media platforms as arguments and new theories started forming.
Fans are disappointed that this “Conformity Gate” theory wasn’t true because many weren’t happy with the original ending. Many people say that “Vecna was defeated too easily” or “It wasn’t dramatic enough”. The Duffer brothers confirm that the ending was meant to be “an emotional, character- focused, goodbye to childhood”. Although the predictions were wrong, many others agreed that the ending was perfectly fine because none of their favorite characters died.
In my personal opinion, the ending to season five was flawless because if the season ended with my favorite characters dying, I would not be pleased. On the contrary, I believe Vecna was killed off too quickly due to the fact that he died in the first 20 minutes of the latest volume, after everyone had been working to kill him for the entire show. Most of the finale was about the epilogue and we even got small cuts to the future to see where the characters end up.
Overall, the ending to a world wide popular show that has been in the making for almost 10 years is hard to build up to the standards of viewers, and many people have had very honest feedback. Viewers essentially get to pick what they believe really happened to the main character, Eleven, which is satisfying to some and enraging to others. It is your choice whether you believe El made it out alive or really died in sacrifice to her friends. As the Dungeons and Dragons party puts up their binders, the whole world is left in tears, saying goodbye to their favorite show. In the end, the most important thing is one question: What do you believe?
