“The Little Mermaid” opens tonight

After months of hard work, Sloan Creek Middle School theatre is going to perform their musical, “The Little Mermaid”, tonight, Friday, and Saturday at the high school auditorium.

“We’ve been working on this show for a really long time, so I think we’re ready,” seventh grader Grant Durow said.

Other cast members feel similarly.

“I’m really nervous because I’m playing Ursula and I have a few solos,” eighth grader Rachel Bradley said. “But I think the show is going to be good. I think a lot of people will like it because everyone knows the story and the movie so it’ll be really popular with kids.”

The middle school musical is traditionally performed on the high school stage so that the upcoming freshmen get experience in the space they will use for the next four years.

“I love working on the high school stage,” Durow said. “I’ve been in two middle school shows which were “Cinderella” and “The Little Mermaid” and two high school shows, “Bye, Bye Birdie” and “The Music Man” here and they’ve all been really fun.”

Performers aren’t the only ones that benefit from performing at the high school.  The experience also pays off for the tech crew.

“I got to know the high school a lot better because of this so I feel more ready for being a part of high school theatre,” eighth grader Pierce Goddard said.

Much of the cast is very dedicated to theatre and plans on continuing in it when they leave the middle school.

“I will definitely continue acting in high school,” Durow said. “I want to be in all the musicals because I like musicals the best, and I want to try acting in other shows more too.”

But if you did, she would probably be eating ice cream and watching something on Netflix. Though she has a proclivity to be sesquipedalian, she can usually tone it down unless she’s really tired or really angry. She is highly sorry that you wasted your time reading this.
