It’s that time of the year again. Musical season. In the past, the high school has put on musicals, selling out almost every time. Musicals like Into the Woods and Music Man gave choir and theatre kids a good name. This year, directors Jessica Brewster and Bethany Green have chosen the funky hip musical Little Shop of Horrors.
To those who don’t know what Little Shop of Horrors is about, stay calm. LSOH revolves around a pitiful little guy named Seymour Krelborn. Seymour works in a very unsuccessful florist shop with the lovely Audrey (who he admires greatly) and is run by the spastic and desperate Mr. Mushnik. During a solar eclipse, Seymour comes across an odd looking plant who he names Audrey II. Soon, Seymour finds out that the plant lives off of blood.
Yes that’s right, blood. After Seymour pricks his fingers countless times, the plant grows and grows, soon vocally telling him he needs more blood! It must be human, and it must be fresh. Seymour must choose: feed the plant and become famous, or let the plant die and remain a helpless person on Skid Row. The musical has a hilarious cast including the pain inflicting dentist named Orin who’s Audrey’s abusive boyfriend, the sassy and demanding Audrey II, the Do-Op chorus of girls and more.
Auditions for Little Shop of Horrors are on Thursday. People outside of theatre and choir are welcome to audition. If you have musical or acting talent, can deliver lines with wit behind your voice, or can sing your heart out, give it a shot.
