A McKinney chiropractor, who treated at least one former student, faces more than 20 years in prison after being convicted of sexual conduct.  Dr. David Allen Russell, was found guilty of two sexual misconduct charges, leaving him with a sentence of 23 years in prison.

“I never felt super uncomfortable with him,” former patient Analiese Fabiny said. “He would always give me a hug but since I went to him for a really long time, I didn’t really find that strange”.

After the allegations were made public, many members of the community were shocked that these things might have happened in their area.

“I could never imagine my chiropractor like that to me,” senior Jasmine White-Stevens said. “I think he deserves his sentence.”

The 44-year-old Russell, who will serve his sentences back to back, faces 15 years for sexual assault of a child and eight years for indecency with a child by contact.

“My best friend also went to him for a really long time and I know he made her uncomfortable pretty often,” Fabiny said. “She would always tell me the weird things he would say to her.”

Hearing several women’s testimony and the arguments by defense and prosecution, the jury found him guilty of misconduct dating back to 2003.  Trying to gain the emotional sympathy of the jury, the defense claimed that Russell suffers from kidney failure and will not last in prison. However, the nearly three dozen witnesses helped proved Russell’s guilt in the eyes of the jury.

“When I found out about the allegations, I was surprised at first,” Fabiny said. “It also freaked me out since I had been his patient for over a year and a half.”

Many of the women who testified said they had not come forward with their stories because they were afraid and embarrassed to share what had happened to them.

“I was sad that all of that had happened,” Fabiny said. “But since it’s all apparently true, I think it was handled well and justice was served.”
