First it was the new Walmart, less than a mile away from campus. Now, there’s another construction site nearby, this one just a few hundred yards from school grounds. At the intersection of Angel Parkway and Estates Parkway, there is a gigantic hole in the ground surrounded by yellow construction machines and a pile of rubble.
The construction site is eliciting curiosity from passersby about what the new building will be. Unfortunately for high schoolers who want amenities close to school, it will not be a new Sonic, gas station, or Subway. The construction is for a new sewage transportation system that will for the Lucas area.. A 27-feet deep hole will help to suction sewage from the new Walmart and the surrounding area, removing it from the ground and into sewage transportation trucks.
After a month of work, the new piping has been installed and the concrete base set into the ground. However, the construction process is not near being finished yet as it will take up to six months to complete. Eventually, the new sewage system will be surrounded by an electric fence. Nothing will be built over the system, it will remain fenced in and left alone to function solely as sewage transportation.
