Many people spend the days leading up to Christmas shopping for their friends and family; however, when Christmas is over, they start to think more of themselves. December 26 is an opportunity for store employees, as well as shoppers, to get a last minute bargain before the new year.
“We do a lot of business after Christmas; there usually are online specials, and we do have clearance sales going on in the store also,” Dicks Sporting Goods manager David Morris said. “Customers can save a lot of money on items that they wanted and didn’t receive, and it’s a great time to shop for them, because they can usually get them at a reduced price.”
After receiving new gift cards and extra money for the holidays, many shoppers hit the stores for on-sale items.
“Usually, a lot of the seasonal stuff will be put on sale that day, because they get great bargains. It adds to our revenue, and it helps to make our end of the year sales quotas,” Dillards employee Mary Helbig said.
With the end of the year fast approaching stores are also in need to get rid of inventory, so many sales are available. Retailers with extra supplies are a great way for customers to save money and get deals.
“We’ve got a sale that starts the day after christmas that it goes for two days. We’ve also got a packaging going out to customers, with a 15 percent off,” Macy’s employee Brandon Mitchell said. “There are a lot of sales going on, which is easy for shoppers, because there will be plenty of stores open, and our hours are pretty convenient.”
When a holiday falls on a weekend people tend to spend more time with their family and friends, than in the mall. However, this December 26 falls on a Wednesday, making it more likely people will be willing to get out and spend their recently received presents.
“Because it’s the day after Christmas, its the day when everyone has gift cards or money, and everyone’s really anxious to spend,” sophomore Anne Reyna said.
