For most students, Thanksgiving Break will be filled with sleep, relaxation, tons of food and the inevitable homework to be put off until Sunday night. But in case you’re looking for something to do, stores and shops around town are prepping for the holidays with sales, lights and other fun activities. Here’s just some of what is happening in the area.
The Villages at Allen and Fairview
November 16th: Kaleidoscope of Dreams lightshow at 7 p.m. in The Village at Fairview, sponsored by LaDuni. Free cookies and cocoa to the first 200 people and a visit by The Big Guy (Santa).
November 16th-December 11th: Holiday Toy Drive benefiting the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County. Bring a new, unwrapped toy to any of the five locations with donation bins: Bliss Cupcakes, Havertys, a Real Bookstore, Be-Dazzled or the Purple Cow.
November 16th-December 24th: Sounds of the Season at various times and locations, featuring different performing groups like The Goode Carolers, the Ereckson Middle School Ovation Show Choir, and the Marion Elementary Choir.
November 17th: Holiday tree lighting at 7 p.m. at The Village at Allen, featuring music, free Bliss cupcakes to the first 200 people, and a visit from the Big Guy.
November 17th-18th: Greater Dallas Fine Arts Festival and the Village at Fairview, featuring local artisans and more than 10,000 pieces of original artwork exhibited and for sale. Admission is free.

Watters Creek
November 15th: Join Luke’s Locker every Thursday morning at 6 a.m. for a 45-minute social run around the Creek. Bagels and coffee served at the store afterwards.
November 17th: Light the Night from 6-9 p.m., including Santa’s arrival, tree lighting, a fireworks show, complimentary trolley rides and refreshments while supplies last.
November 17th: Movies by the Creek, typically the last Saturday of every month at dusk. This month’s movie is “Arthur Christmas”.
December 1, 7, 8, 17-22: Free horse-drawn carriage rides from 6-9 p.m. Carriages hold 6 passengers and are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
