The 84th Academy Awards was a year for firsts. “The Artist” was the first silent film to win an Oscar since the award ceremony’s first presentation in 1929. Jean Dujardin is the first native French actor to win an Academy Award.
Also, Christopher Plummer is the oldest actor to win an Academy Award, at the age of 82. Meryl Streep won her third Academy Award this year, despite being nominated more times than any other actor or actress (at 17 nominations).
