Best Valentine’s Day movies

It’s almost here: the cheesiest holiday of them all. The one men dread. The one women take advantage of. Chocolates and teddy bears are expected, and romantic movies reign supreme.  There are countless love-themed movies appropriate for the day and here are 10 of the best.

r3008b10. “Sleepless in Seattle” (1993) – This film stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan (who we’ll see later on the list again). Tom Hanks plays a widower whose son tries to find his father a wife and him a new mother. The film displays great chemistry between Ryan and Hanks and viewers will enjoy this film.

the-notebook-movie-poster-2004-10202018539. “The Notebook” (2004) – Yes, this film IS one of the top movies guys will do anything to avoid. But, on Valentine’s Day, this romantic flick starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams portrays the story of two lovers with social differences, keeping them apart. A tear jerker for sure–just ask any female.

211494.1020.A8. “Beauty and the Beast” (1991) – If you have a soul, chances are you’ve seen this classic Disney animation. The story of Belle and the Beast is for sure a good choice for Valentine’s Day. Great musical numbers, fantastic humorous characters, and a love story that belongs on this list.

casablanca7. “Casablanca” (1942) – Time for a classic. Never seen it? That’s very common for people under the age of 40, unless you’re a film geek like myself. This black and white movie takes place during World War II and revolves around an American expatriate who meets a former lover in unoccupied Africa and runs into complications. Give it a shot.

Princess Bride6. “The Princess Bride” (1987) – Cary Elwes and Robin Wright star in this masterpiece of comedy and romance. One of the best fairy tales ever told on the silver screen. The movie is about a man on a journey to rescue his true love from marrying a dreadful prince. With an all-star cast, this movie will leave you laughing with enjoyment no matter who you are.

eternal-sunshine-of-the-spotless-mind-poster-artwork-kate-winslet-kirsten-dunst-tom-wilkinson5. “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (2004) – Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet make one of the best on screen couples of all time in this heartfelt story about two people who must learn to fall in love again. The great cast in this film will put a smile on your face and the movie will leave quite an impression on you.

when-harry-met-sally-movie-poster-1989-10204702914. “When Harry Met Sally…” (1989) – Talk about a classic romantic comedy. Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan deliver memorable scenes in this film that your parents have most likely seen. The movie revolves around two friends who believe any kind of relationship would ruin their friendship. Laughter is included.

MV5BMTk5MjM4OTU1OV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwODkzNDIzMw@@._V1._SX640_SY986_3. “(500) Days of Summer” (2009) – Rising star Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel make this romantic comedy one of the best through their wittiness and quirks. This flick is about a woman (Deschanel) who doesn’t believe in true love, and the man (Gordon-Levitt) who falls for her.

love-actually-movie-poster2. “Love Actually” (2003) – How can one think about romantic comedies without “Love Actually” coming to mind? Many films have tried to imitate what this film has done (Valentine’s Day, New Years Eve) and have failed miserably. Each story in this film grips you and you fall in love with it all by the end. Oh, and Liam Neeson’s in it.

crazy-stupid-love-movie-poster-41. “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” (2011) – The most recent love story displayed on the silver screen is the number one Valentine’s Day movie to watch for many reasons. Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, Steve Carell’s hilarious performance, laughable situations, relationships that you envy, and many other things you wouldn’t expect from this amazing heart-warming film. Anyone would enjoy this flick and it wouldn’t be surprising if it landed on your list of favorites.

All these movies are fitting for Valentine’s Day, and any audience member will enjoy them with their other half. Think I missed a movie or have your own list? Leave a comment in the comment section and let me know!
