La Duni hits the spot

The Village at Fairview is a local hotspot for shopping and dining. A recent addition to the ever-growing selection of restaurants at the Village of Fairview is the Latin café La Duni which blends European and Latin American cuisine to create dishes with a unique fusion flavor.

The dishes at La Duni are examples of quality over quantity. The most popular appetizer, Platon campero ($11.95), is a combination plate, providing different varieties of the banana family and delicious empanadas with a different special filling that changes daily. The portion size is slightly stingy for $11.95, but the taste is great. However, diners definitely won’t want to fill up before the entrees. La Duni is famous for its unique mojos, Latin sauces and salsas. Three different varieties of spicy mojos are included with the appetizer. For those that can handle the heat, these sauces have to be tasted.

With great food, there has to be great drinks. La Duni offers every variety of lemonade imaginable. Limonada Mango, Limonada Berries, Limonada Menta (mint lemonade) are only a few. If not in the mood for lemonade, then try the artisanal vintage sodas featuring flavors like passion fruit, mango and guava, which are self mixed.

Recommended by the waiter, the Carne Asada Arrachera is delicious. It’s a delight steak eaters will enjoy. It’s served with Basmati rice, sweet friend bananas, red bell peppers, mushrooms, avocado, fire roasted salsa and black beans. It’s filling and wholesome and every bite is a burst of flavor.

But make sure room is saved for dessert because the desserts are to die for. Especially the bestselling desert, the Cuarto Leches Cake. It’s basically a slice of heaven. For chocolate lovers, the Venezualan Triple Chocolate Truffle Cake is another bestselling dessert. The desserts are pricey at $7.25 per slice, but the slice is big enough for 2-3 people to share.

The restaurant décor features candles and dim lighting, with black and white photos and mirrors adorning the walls. Written just below the ceiling of the dining room is “A day without cake is a day without love”, a statement most people can agree on. La Duni has a great ambience that is suitable for a romantic dinner or a family outing. And the waiters are friendly and are very helpful in selecting dishes.

La Duni has a convenient location, excellent food and great service. It’s not a place one would visit every week, but for a treat or for a special occasion, it’s the perfect restaurant for some indulgence.
