Guts World Tour came to Dallas the weekend of March 1st, and some would say lives were changed! This concert at American Airlines center has got to be in my top 5 concerts I’ve been to. Belting out the range of songs from “Drivers license” to “Lacy”, there was never a dull moment in the show, and I loved it!
Before Olivia came out Chappell Roan opened and that got the crowd hype from the first second. Once the opener was done the countdown to Olivia began. About 5 minutes before she came on stage the title “guts” appeared in the background, and they were in the form of candles melting. That was one of the coolest features of the night in my opinion. Once Olivia finally came out she opened with “Bad Idea Right”, and I think it was the perfect first song to get the night started off strong. The beginning of the show was more of the punk rock songs, which was fun, but as soon as she started getting into her soul heartbreak songs, the crowd was going crazy. The amount of teenagers screaming their heart out with tears in their eyes was insane, and was a very surreal experience to be a part of. One cool moment around the halfway point of the show was when she hooked herself up to a harness and sat on a huge fake crescent moon. Stars fell from the sky and the lighting was perfect. She sang two songs on this moon, and the moon flew around the whole stadium in a circle. She turned to all points of the stadium and felt so close to the crowd. Something I love is how Olivia’s eyes look so genuine. When she waves or winks at a fan it feels so real, and like she actually cares about the people that look up to her. That’s something not a lot of celebrities have and she is really good at making people in the crowd feel seen.
After she finished with the more sappy heart wrenching songs, she moved back into the punk rock vibe we started off with. It was a flawless transition, and everyone was immediately jumping up and down. She sang about 5 more songs with this vibe, and then left the stage leaving people wanting more. She hadn’t sung her three top hits yet, but 2 minutes later she came back out and finished with the encore. As “Get him Back” was playing confetti dumped down from the ceiling, and as I took a look around I noticed everyone was content. Olivia came into the crowd for a little bit at the end, and even though my seats weren’t on the floor it was cool to see her interact with the fans, even though she was probably exhausted from singing and dancing her heart out with 100% energy the whole show.
In the future I would love to go back to an Olivia Rodrigo concert. She did a really good job meshing her two albums “Guts” and “Sour”, and left the crowd very happy and entertained!
