Words of wisdom: In this article, TRL’s Calla Patino uses one of the best leads I’ve ever read to tell the story of teacher Suma Joseph’s time in India’s Naval Fleet. In 419 words, Calla managed to share struggles Joseph faced and how her experiences impact her daughter, Dinah Thadikonda. This feature is easily one of my favorites on TRL and is a must read for anyone looking for a heartwarming story.

Coffee please: As a coffee enthusiast, I was very excited to read Parker Post’s reviews of local coffee shops. This review captures the aura of every coffee shop that was reviewed and gives a good look into their menus. Although Parker’s main focus was the community section, I loved the quick and honest review she wrote. I highly recommend anyone looking for a new coffee spot to give a quick look to this review.

Crown worthy career: TRL’s Ryan Wang is typically our go-to writer for any music, movie and TV show review, but I consider this column to be one of his best pieces. Written after actor Chadwick Boseman passed away, Ryan was able to summarize a variety of Boseman’s work and pay tribute to a legendary actor. This column was so well written and is a testament to Ryan’s amazing writing capability.

Fantastic four: With an amazing lead and close look into four underclassmen’s experience on the track team, Lily Bouldin describes the girls team that ran the 4×400 relay. This article quickly became one of my favorites because of its unique format. The article almost seems to be a culmination of four separate mini feature stories on each one of the girls that ran the relay.

Pursuing grace: This news story is different from most. Although focused on how teacher Tania Vaugn was given an award by the district, Lily Bouldin uses a creative lead to show readers how much Vaughn helps her students. This story honors Vaughn’s accomplishments while showing us the impact she has on those around her, ultimately making it a great read about someone who has given so much to our district.
