Freshman Andrew James swims the butterfly in the 200 individual medley at the Dallas Cup in Plano on Friday, Nov. 9.

The swim and dive teams will be sending competitors to the Lone Star Classic, a 6A TISCA meet, today at 3:30 p.m. at Mansfield ISD Natatorium.

Swimmers with Lonestar Invitational qualifying times include Jackson Willard, Eason Jones, Jed Jones, James Vaughn, Alex Rowe, Max Mueth, Natalie Womack, Jakob Feldman, Harlin Dean, Kelsey Carroll and Jackie Carroll.

Willard, who qualified with a 1:06.56 in the 100 yard breaststroke, said he was excited about the upcoming meet.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun to have that bonding experience with my teammates and getting out of the whole day of school is nice,” Willard said.

TISCA meets are typically very fast swimming meets, but longer than invitationals, due to day one being prelims, and the top 16 returning the next day for finals. There are times required to make it into the meet for both girls and boys. Each event has a different required time.

The Leopards’ last meet was the Dallas Cup meet where non-TISCA qualifiers were also able to compete. Senior team captain James Vaughn will be swimming at today and said he feels greatly prepared.

“From what I heard we did pretty good from a best times standpoint,” Vaughn said. “I will be attending Lone Star, but it’s just going to practice and tweaking some form and I feel as ready as I’ll ever be.”

During his first year with The Red Ledger, sophomore Drew Gager will contribute as a staff writer. His hobbies include golfing and playing video games. He loves to watch football and wants to be a NFL analyst when he grows up. He joined The Red Ledger staff so he could pursue his dreams to be on ESPN and talk about football all day long.. His favorite movie is “Hateful Eight” and he doesn’t have a favorite actor because he believes Samuel L. Jackson, Will Smith, and Denzel Washington are all the best actors of all time. He plans on going to Oklahoma University to major in journalism. After Drew has made five hundred billion dollars doing something (to be determined), he will spend it all on junk food. Drew is a part of a big family at home. He has two sisters and one brother at home, and he knows being a part of The Red Ledger family will be a great experience.
