A smooth voice and charming lyrics make John Mayer not only a heartthrob, but an iconic guitarist, singer and songwriter. Since Inside Wants Out, in September of 1999, Mayer has been capturing the heart of anyone who loves an emotional and heartfelt piece of music. Well, get excited because Mayer is back.

Paradise Valley, Mayer’s newest album (released August 20, 2013), gives listeners a similar feel to his last album, Born and Raised.

Showcasing an evolved sound while adding his love of folk rock into a decent portion of his pieces, Mayer’s music has definitely grown and changed since his Room for Squares days. Though he has developed as an entertainer, Mayer stays true to his engaging lyrics and unique vocal quality.

“Wildfire” is an upbeat and energetic way to kick off the album, but no one should overlook the simple pleasures like “Badge and Gun”. Each piece Mayer performs is unique and genuine. His rendition of “Call Me the Breeze”, doing justice to J.J Cale’s original 1970’s blues track, proves that. Of course, nothing has changed when it comes to Mayer and his guitar. He has written every single piece so that it sounds effortless, calming and is a perfect accompaniment to his equally soothing voice.

Mayer has added something for every fan out there. Songs like “Dear Marie” are found to be true to his familiar style and the writing was spot on. “On the Way Home” is similar with its well written lyrics and subtle, but catchy summer tune. Multiple tracks within the album, like “Wildfire”, are different and pose a similar sound to Born and Raised with it’s fun arrangement for the band and lyrics that will make any listener smile.

August was an ideal time for John Mayer to put out his sixth album. Paradise Valley has a very laid back arrangement with a summertime easiness that exudes a light hearted feel. Mayer fans are sure to be satisfied. The album is full of fun, heart and musicianship that is unmistakably John Mayer.
