Purple is not a school color, but for the next few months students and staff will be seeing a lot of it as the campaign to raise awareness for Relay For Life kicks off.
The student-run Relay For Life committee gathered at the school over the long weekend to decorate the school in an attempt to make students aware of this event in April.
Relay For Life is a national organization that raises awareness for cancer research and celebrates those who have survived. Lovejoy will be hosting their first Relay For Life on April 19, courtesy of the National Honors Society.
Students are encouraged to form teams for the relay. Each team must have a team captain, and during the event, which runs from 6 p.m. on the 19 to 6 a.m. on the 20, one member from each team must be walking on the track at all times. This all night walk symbolizes that cancer never rests, and that the fight against it cannot rest either.
If there are questions about Relay For Life or interest in joining a team, contact senior Alex Pages or junior Liz Schasel, or find one of the committee members, who are wearing neon orange shirts today.
