Hacking takes over the halls

A new craze has swept the school, and it all began with a group of seniors looking to have fun in their spare time. Seniors Drew Scolaro, Tom Campbell, Cullon Greene, Grayson Williams, Austin Turnbow, JD Stone, and Cameron Barajas have taken over the school with their new obsession of hacky sacking.

But some of the school’s staff is not that pleased with the new game.

“Well most of the times that I’ve seen it is has been after first period when all of the football players are coming in and I think it would be better served if it was in the courtyard,” attendance clerk Judy Hise said.

As far as teachers go, many feel that hacky sacking is a disruption and a possible danger.

“It would be better served in the courtyard because they’re taking it from the hallways and into the classroom and since I’m a science teacher I have glass all over my room and it’s a hazard to my students,” chemistry teacher Tarna Armstrong said.

Although it is looked down upon by most of the staff, the students are not going to give up their new favorite activity. Scolaro and the rest of the seniors see it as an innocent attempt to have fun between classes.

“It’s fun and it’s just a new thing that we’ve never done. It’s just another way to pass our free time,” senior Cameron Barajas said.

In fact, they enjoy it so much, they are sharing their love for the game by way of a new website.
The website has all different types of information on hacking, where and where not to hack, player of the week and advice for those trying to join the new trend.

“It pretty much has all of the different types of sacks we use and it even has an RSS feed that i can text into if anyone wants to know where we’re hacking in the school at that moment in time,” Campbell said. “It’s a frequent update so I can be like ‘Hack in the gym right now!’ and it’ll pop up, and you can even set it as a notification on your phone.”

Campbell and Scolaro have put a lot of time and dedication into the making of the website and are eager to share it with the rest of the school.

“This website was created to express the hard work and dedication the hacky sack clan has, excuse me not the clan, the clique has to each other and the game” Scolaro said “It’s all for the hack.”

The school has now began to crack down on those hacking in the commons or hallways without permission from their teacher.  However this has not stopped the hacky sack crazed students from finding a way to hack in the halls.

“You don’t choose to play hacky sack, hacky sack chooses you,” senior Skyler Roundtree said.
