Reminiscing on summer memories

Summer is the great vacation where teachers and students alike have time to relax and have fun. For some, there are one or two memories that stand out from the rest, from a favorite trip or concert to a day well-spent with family or friends. Here are some of the best memories of summer from across campus:

Mark Scott, sophomore: “I would have to say that one of my most meaningful memories was my first show with one of my favorite bands that I’ve worked with, A Trip In the Ocean. We weren’t the best but we had a lot of fun with what we did and that first show really embodied the spirit of our band.”

Josh Fisher, junior: “Warped Tour 2011, the best by far. There were like three of my favorite bands there [Of Mice and Men, The Devil Wears Prada, A Day to Remember], I was with a bunch of friends, and I got really sweaty.”

Nolan Turco, sophomore: “I went to a party that lasted 3 days and it was really just a lot of fun.”

Kyle Herrema, basketball coach: “In high school, my friends and I would go to Salt Creek Falls in Aniston, Alabama and we’d go jumping off waterfalls and swimming in the pond during the summer.”

Erick McKenzie, senior: “I was at the lake all the time and I went to a party almost every other night, it was just fun. I was super tired but every time was just more fun than the last time. We had a big screen TV where we could watch the Rangers game and we caught a lot of big fish!”

Judy Hise, Attendance Clerk: “I’d have to say my favorite memory is my trip to the Bahamas with my family when I was in middle school. We went scuba diving, we went snorkeling, and we went biking all through the island. It was really fun and it was great weather!”

Ryan Cox, football coach: “Summer workouts with the football players, getting ready for fall, and when I was a kid, doing all the camps and things that children get to do over summers.”

About the Contributor
Meridan Cavanaugh, Staff Reporter
In the beginning, Meridan Cavanaugh could not talk, walk, read or write. Now, sixteen years after her parents made up her unpronounceable name, she has overcome these obstacles and risen above her initial uselessness. A part of choir, theater and sometimes newspaper, she is involved in only the coolest programs of the school. She enjoys singing and playing piano, bass guitar, ukulele and harmonica, and will play the intro to Billy Joel's “Piano Man” for you until your ears bleed. Also, she is always listening to music from an alarmingly wide range of genres and is a condescending music snob. A cinephile from a very young age, she has vowed to watch every film on the “1000 Films to Change Your Life” list before she dies, which is a tall order for a mere mortal, but she, having gained immortality in a battle of wits with Socrates, will have no issue completing it. Some of her other life goals are to join the South African Extreme Ironing team, go to a Rage Against the Machine or Beastie Boys concert, and high five James Franco. Meridan moved here from Connecticut in eighth grade and while she misses trees, hills of any kind, and seasons, she has grown to love the people and low sales tax here.
