Lovejoy Memes cause controversy

Lovejoy+Memes+cause+controversy

With prom, graduation, and senior retreat right around the corner, it is surprising that anything else is occupying student’s thoughts. However, one thing all the grades seem to being talking about is the new page on facebook called The Lovejoy Memes page.

“It’s really funny,” senior Marianne Winarsky said. “It’s all we have been talking about for awhile.”

This site’s creator is unknown but seems to want to keep the site clean for innocent fun. It has been said multiple times to keep the memes strictly about the high school and not about individuals’ personal life.

“It mentions other people but it’s not like insulting them,” senior Katie Esposito said. “It is just well known incidents that happen that a majority of us know.”

The site is getting attention on and off campus with the graduated classes. A lot of the graduates have put their own memes on there about their own personal experiences.

As a lot of students might seem to enjoy the site, teachers and administration may be offended by the way students see the school and how they are degrading the facility. When asked about this subject, the administration chose not to comment.

Students, however, see this as an opening to send a message to administration saying they want change.

“I hope administration sees the site,” junior Megan Forrest said. “They might actually realize we need to change some of the ways Lovejoy goes by. It’s not fair how much we do compared to other high schools with this site we can say it and obviously people agree having over 100 likes on some memes.”

Honestly, if the administration is ashamed or find the memes offensive, then they can change it.
At my work, out of a good amount of teenage employees, I am the only Lovejoy kid, and people ask me questions every time I work that the administration wouldn’t like. Such as, “Is it true they have Macs in every room?” or “Didn’t they spend a ton of money on a indoor facility for their sports but the field part is barley used? or even, “Who’s the richest kid there?”

If the administration is so proud of their school, then they can change it if they don’t like it. The memes page was created for fun, just like a few years ago, the comic that was posted in the hallways about us being able to turn in stuff late, then the pan at college and they say they cant to turn stuff in late. Yes, they did take those down soon, but 1/2 your graduating class is in Community College or not even college.

Step up, Lovejoy. You’re not as good as your think you are.
