The Red Ledger: How long have you been running cross country?
Bridget Bernal: I have been running since kindergarten, but I started doing real training in 7th grade.
TRL: You weren’t in the top 7 last year, and now you are ranking 4th. What changed?
BB: I think the training just clicked. I feel like I know how to get past the pain during races better this year when I didn’t last year. Also, Coach Littlefield pushed me a lot during training, so I was pushed to a new level.
TRL: What does your training schedule look like?
BB: We usually have 3 workouts and 2 recovery days with a long run on the weekend when we don’t have a race that week.
TRL: How did the team feel about winning State?
BB: We were super excited to get a 3-peat and show off all the hard work we put into this season.
