The boys wrestling team is set to compete today in the District 9-5A meet. The opposition will include Creekview, Highland Park, McKinney North, Melissa, Princeton, Pittsburg, RL Turner, Newman Smith, and Wylie East.
Head coach Mike Eaton said he believes in all of his varsity boys and doesn’t plan on just having a handful of his players in regionals next week.
“We have a team full that we feel all can place,” Eaton said. “Our expectations for ourselves and the whole team is to place and wrestle in next week’s regional tournament.”
Sophomore Dalton Braun said he is walking into the meet with a winning attitude and said he has pushed himself every day to succeed in this meet.
“What motivates me to wrestle well in each match is the feeling I get when I win and my hand is raised,” Braun said. “I’m going through the match in my head before it ever happens, what I’m going to do to win and how I’m going to do it.”
Preparing for meets aren’t just about staying hydrated and holding a healthy diet. Senior Johnny Dorlon discussed what he has to do to prepare mentally for an important meet like this one.
“My mental prep is just keeping myself low stress and calm,” Dorlon said. “This late in the season, you really can’t improve your technique all that much, so you just need to not psych yourself out and give 100 percent.”
