Wrestlers Katherine Heath, Alex Vislosky and Avery Ashley (left to right) finish the UIL wrestling season as winners in their weight classes.

The wrestling team competed in the UIL state competition from Feb. 21-22 at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas. Three students, sophomore Avery Ashley and seniors Katherine Heath and Alexander Vislosky placed top three in their weight classes.

“We’re still evaluating but this is one of our best seasons ever,” head wrestling coach Mike Eaton said. “We have a lot of good guys coming back and we’re excited about the future.”

Boy’s team wrestlers senior Hunter Duncan, juniors Jack McKinney and Jacob Underwood, sophomores Austin Blair, Isaiah Hunter and Alexander Vislosky all competed in the tournament. Vislosky placed second in the tournament, becoming the school’s first boys varsity wrestler to place at state.

“I’m happy with it, but I’m not really satisfied,” Vislosky said. “I feel like I did well because I wrestled one match at a time and stayed consistent throughout the whole tournament.”

The girl’s wrestling team had two team members place at the competition. Sophomore Avery Ashley took first place, becoming the second female state champion in a row for the girl’s wrestling team.

“I feel pretty good about it,” Heath said. “This is probably one of the best years we’ve had.”
