The cross country team’s perfect season came to an end last Saturday at the state meet. After expecting to take the title for the third year straight, the team came home with third place, even with four runners finishing in the top 31.

The Leopards found ways to win all season, but the competition at the state meet proved to be too strong.

“We ran well this weekend, but it just wasn’t enough to take first place,” junior Will Muirhead said. “I’m proud of the team and am looking forward seeing what we can do during track season.”

At the state meet, Muirhead finished the highest on the team at seventh with a time of 15:16. Junior Brady Laboret finished second on the team with a time of 15:40, taking 17th overall. Junior Gradon Morris of Aledo won the meet with a time of 15:03. El Paso Eastwood won the meet with 62 points. Second was Austin LBJ, who had two runners in the top three.

Senior Carson Hockersmith finished 44th with a time of 19:21, while her teammate Amelia Carothers finished 120th with a time of 20:50.

“This track season we are looking forward to running well and capitalize off a great cross country season,” junior Whitson Bedell said.

The Leopards will be competing in an exhibition meet for the Nike South Regional Championship on Nov. 18 before the first track meet in late November.
