The softball team (18-13 overall, 9-6 district) lost to Sulphur Springs (18-4, 9-1) in game two of the Bi-District Championship, ending its season.

“We played hard,” head coach Jeff Roberts said. “Sulphur Springs just simply hit the ball better than we did. Our pitching was young, and they learned a lot throughout the season.”

The team was very young this year, starting three to four freshmen, as opposed to last year, when the team started seven seniors. The team’s lone senior, third baseman Alyssa Difiore, will go on to play at the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

“Alyssa, as the only senior, has worked hard during her four years, and I wish her the best at UNO,” Roberts said.

The team now turns its focus to the offseason and will prepare for a new district after the statewide district realignment.

“Next year, we will walk into a rather weak district and return eight starters from this past season,” Roberts said.

Roberts, who is resigning from his role as softball coach but will still serve the district as an assistant principal, said he is excited to see the future of the program.

“I am excited about the success this team will have next year, and I truly expect them to be the district champions each of the next two years,” Roberts said. “This team should go at least three to four rounds deep into the playoffs over the next two seasons.”

About the Contributors
Drew Doig
Drew Doig, Staff Writer
Entering his fourth and final year on The Red Ledger staff, senior Drew Doig will continue to be a sports writer. Drew, or “Doig” as he’s more commonly called, is a member of the varsity basketball team, National Honor Society, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Outside of school, Doig enjoys hanging out with friends and watching sports. A fan of everything Auburn, Doig plans to attend Auburn University. However, with major persuasion from his brother Grant, he could end up attending the University of Arkansas. Doig also enjoys playing video games and will take on any worthy opponent in NCAA 14 or NBA 2K. You can find Doig on the grill as he enjoys throwing on a nice New York Strip with fellow senior Kyle Olson. He enjoys watching The Office and will recite a line from Dwight Schrute when need be. Doig hopes that his wealth of experience on the staff and expressive personality will land him on the TRL’s heralded “RIP wall” next to some of the all time greats that came through E103. Doig couldn’t be more excited to be on the staff for his senior year along with fellow veteran Joseph Vastano, and he’s ready to take the class to an elite level.

Parker Nolan, Section Editor
Senior Parker Nolan joined The Red Ledger in ninth grade and is now the paper’s Multimedia Editor. His hobbies include making music, photography, and borderline dangerous escapades (some consider him an adrenaline junkie). Parker is currently dual enrolled at Collin College for Emergency Medical Services education to become an EMT. His favorite movie is “The Italian Job,” and his favorite genres of music are alternative rock and rap. "Be the change you want to see in the world,” a quote from Mahatma Gandhi, is a phrase that Parker tries to live his life by. In his spare time, Parker enjoys working out, hanging with friends, and exploding fireworks. Parker can be described as sometimes chill, sometimes adrenaline filled, and a little too confident in his abilities.
