Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition brings a timeless classic to the PS4

While remasters have been increasingly popular in the last couple of years, most games have been remastered after only being a couple of years old. In rare occasions however, old classics get the remaster they deserve, as is the case “Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life.”

Originally released in 2003 for the Nintendo Gamecube, then in 2004 for the Playstation 2. Now, for the first time, players can experience the amazing world of “Harvest Moon” in HD. Dubbed “Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life Special Edition,” the game has been upscaled, and has added trophies and better controls. While the graphics have not been updated, it is a cheaper option for those that own a PS4 and not an older console.

“Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life,” is a farm simulation game that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The graphics are cartoonish, and the tone is lax, so players can really create their own experience in the game. Players get to name every animal, the protagonist, and their farm, providing a sense of immersion as soon as the game begins. The plot of “Harvest Moon” is loose, and provides open-ended exploration. Essentially, the protagonist is taking over their dad’s old family farm with the help of his best friend, Takakura, who serves as the interactive tutorial.

Players can raise animals or farm crops, or a combination of both, with the ultimate goal to have a productive and profitable farm. The enjoyable part is working towards doing this in anyway the player wishes, and during this process, can interact with non-playable characters around your farm. Games like this push players to be the best without pushing toward definite goals, instead letting the player choose their definition of successful by having fun the way they want.

“Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life” is an older, but rewarding and enjoyable game. The content has stayed the same since the original, with a few slight add-ons, but is cheaper now on the PS4, and is in HD, as well. Even for those that own the old game, it is worth a buy for the smoother and updated interface.
