Although junior varsity volleyball coach and health teacher Brianne Groth has only been at Lovejoy for a couple years, her time has already come to leave. Groth was recently offered and accepted a job as head volleyball coach at Colleyville Heritage.

“I had always wanted to be a head coach and I thought with this opportunity that came up it was the perfect opportunity to get my feet wet in the head coaching world,” Groth said. “I just want to be able to further my career and what better way to do that then with a exciting new opportunity at Colleyville.”

This is Groth’s first year of teaching and coaching, but she has been coaching ever since she graduated from Oklahoma University five years ago.

“I have really enjoyed my time here at Lovejoy and I thought that I would be here longer but since this opportunity came up, I thought, ‘let’s go ahead and do it,’” Groth said.

Groth will also be coaching a second sport and teaching speech and/or P.E.

“Colleyville called me and said they had a vacancy and they wanted to talk to me a little more about if I wanted to be a head coach,” Groth said. “So they asked me down to a first interview at Starbucks, and I had a interview with the head principal and assistant principal. That led to a second interview with a panel of coaches and the superintendent, and then that led to a final interview with coaches principals and a couple of parents where I gave a presentation and that led to the job.”

It is not known exactly when Groth will be leaving Lovejoy.

“I did not have any other options than Colleyville because I knew how great I had it here,” Groth said. “As far as the volleyball goes you can’t find much better program in the state of Texas, so I knew it would take a great situation to get me out of here. And through learning more about Colleyville and learning more about their administration, I really feel like it’s an opportunity I can’t pass up.”

Students who played for Coach Groth have mixed feelings about her leaving.

“I’m really happy for her but I’m going to miss her a lot,” JV player Grace Broussard said. “She was a great coach and I learned a lot from her. I wish her the best at Colleyville.”
