A sequel, Killing Floor 2 offers better graphics, a new plot, and improved characters.

New to Steam Early Access recently is Tripwire Interactive’s Killing Floor 2, a direct sequel to 2009’s co-op survival horror game Killing Floor. Just like the original, Killing Floor 2 takes place in the middle of a biological outbreak. But instead of zombies, there are different types of monsters called Zeds.

As for the comparison between the original and Killing Floor 2, Killing Floor 2 is definitely the better looking game with a cleaner interface carried over from the first. The seven classes from the original: Commando, Field Medic, Support Specialist, Sharpshooter, Berserker, Firebug, and Demolitions come back, but have been completely overhauled, and for the better. In Killing Floor, it took hours to level up once. Instead of doing specific challenges to level up, it is based on how many of the Zeds players kill. Now it takes one long game to level up and the level system feels actually useful this time around.

The graphics are on par with 2011’s Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad, and look amazing. The guns feel real, and the sounds and reloads look and sound great. There are a limited amount of maps and guns right now because of the game still being in early access, but the full game will be released soon. For any fan of any Tripwire games and newbies to the series, it is worth it, even with the limited content at the moment.
