The college application process can be confusing and intimidating, but on Wednesday during lunches the  the class of 2015 shared their college application experience with the class of 2016.

“The purpose of this event is to raise awareness for the junior class by their peers, to hear from their peers exactly what this college application experience is like,” college and career counselor Randy Trevino said. “It’s one thing for Ms. Snyder and myself to say something and offer advice, but it is another thing to hear it from those who have just gone through the application process and who are their peers and student group.”

Seniors, selected to answer a couple of pre-set questions, sat on stage in the auditorium and shared their experiences.

“I think the juniors this year need to not make the same mistakes we made such as focusing on one school, procrastinating the applications, and doing it in a disorganized way,” senior Collin Cross said. “I think there is a lot to learn from the experiences of this year’s seniors.”

The assembly was targeted at putting to rest a couple of pressing concerns some of the juniors may have had as they approach the stressful part of their high school careers.

“One of the biggest points we wanted to hit was to start now,” Trevino said. “It is important to utilize your summer to get a head start on the application process and the college search. If you get your process going early, it will help you manage your senior year with all your activities and all your busy class schedules.”

Several students found the short assembly eye opening and helpful.

“It was a good experience for some of us juniors,” junior Abby Martin said. “Some people had good questions to ask the seniors but the seniors also talked a lot about how well their application process went. I will probably use their advice to get a head start on my stuff this summer.”
