With as busy as things can get during the school year, many students decide to wait until the summer for employment opportunities. And whether it’s fast food restaurants on Stacy Road or the countless other businesses nearby, students have lots of options for a summer job.

“I applied for a job at Old Navy after I turned sixteen so that I could raise money for a mission trip to Thailand with my church,” junior Caroline Brugge said. “I also pay for my own gas and so it’s important that I have money to pay for my necessities.”

Although most students already are stressed this time of year because of the pressures of prom, AP, ACT and SAT testing, as well as graduation and the finalization of grades and GPAs for seniors, many students find that it is important that they make an income.

“I like the responsibility of having a job and I need money,” senior Scott Kelley said. “I used to work at Nike but it wasn’t for me, and that’s when I got hired at Puckett’s Nursery.”

Currently, many places located on Stacy Road are hiring with Zoe’s Kitchen, Old Navy, and Cheddar’s Casual Cafe all using online applications.

“I know that Old Navy are still accepting more applications and they hired my best friend and I,” Brugge said. “I haven’t really started working yet but it is really nice.”

Most students choose to work in restaurants for the opportunity to work with their friends as well as socializing with other people.

“I definitely would recommend working at a restaurant because it’s fun,” senior Sydney Carawan said. “I would recommend it over working at any other place because working at On The Border was the best part of my life.”
