Cardboard Box City 2014

 Students from all grade levels brought cardboard boxes into the indoor facility to raise awareness for homelessness.  This was the annual Cardboard Box City organized by the Lovejoy Key Club.
Students received prizes based upon different qualities of their boxes. This was the annual Cardboard Box City event put on by Family Promise with the help of the Lovejoy Key Club.

The fifth annual Cardboard Box City event took place this past Saturday, April 5 in the LHS indoor facility. It was moved indoors due to cold temperatures and rain.

 Students from all grade levels brought cardboard boxes into the indoor facility to raise awareness for homelessness.  This was the annual Cardboard Box City organized by the Lovejoy Key Club.

Students filled the indoor facility with their cardboard boxes to spend a night simulating more or less what a homeless person endures.

Many people brought Frisbees and footballs to keep themselves entertained throughout the night.

Most participants decorated their boxes prior to the event in order to create a more “homey” environment and possibly win a prize.

The boxes were temporarily abandoned as all participants left to listen to a speaker who had experienced situational homelessness herself. In addition to the speaker, prizes were given for the best decorated boxes as part of the program.

This is the fifth annual year for the Family Promise of Collin County’s Cardboard Box City event to take place.

Boys and girls were separated into two different “camps” for the duration of Cardboard Box City.
