The backstretch of track season is here, and the Leopards are preparing for the most important meets of the year. The team has competed in three meets this year and has two meets remaining starting with the Wylie Pirate Relays Thursday at Wylie High School.

After the Wylie Pirate Relays, a select few athletes on the team will travel Austin to compete in the Texas Relays at the University of Texas. Sophomore Aaron Fuller, senior Lauren Sturm, senior Kendall Joiner, and senior Joe Brands have been selected to compete due to their results at previous meets this year.

“I am pretty excited to be able to run with the fastest kids in the state,” sophomore Aaron Fuller said. “I hope to make it to the finals and bring home the gold.”

Following the Texas Relays, the Leopards will compete in the district meet on April 9 at Royse City High School.

“I intend to do everything in my power to help propel this school I call home to a district championship,” sophomore Dakota Michaels said. “I intend to run very hard and be successful.”

The Leopards have high hopes for the remainder of the year.

“These guys have become a family to me,” freshman Blake Pfaff said. “Everyone is always improving, which I am so proud of. I think we have a lot of talent moving forward.”
