The first day of the late signing period for college scholarships featured ten Leopards signing athletic scholarship offers with colleges and universities. The Red Ledger was able to find out from some why they chose their given school and what they expect as freshman.

Cassie Conarty- Texas Tech University, soccer

The Red Ledger: Why did you choose Texas Tech?

Cassie Conarty: “The coach at Texas Tech is really awesome and the girls that play there are welcoming.”

The Red Ledger: What do you expect as a freshman?

“It’s going to be hard because they do a lot more fitness than I do now.”

Mick Ellis- University of Iowa, football

The Red Ledger: Why did you choose Iowa?

Mick Ellis: “Academically it’s really good and I got a full ride there so thats always a good pull. Also their kicker graduated so I have a good chance to start next year as a true freshman.”

Abby Tedford- Arkansas University, cross country

The Red Ledger: Why did you choose Arkansas?

Abby Tedford: “We go up to Arkansas every year for track and cross country and it feels like home to me.”

What do you expect as a Freshman?

“It’s going to be a lot different but their workouts are pretty similar to ours.”

Autumn Keefer- Seminole State College, tennis

The Red Ledger: Why did you choose Seminole State?

Autumn Keefer: “They have a really competitive tennis program and I just feel like it was a really good fit for me. The coaches are really nice and I really enjoyed my visit.”

What do you expect as a Freshman?

“As a freshman I’m hoping to play the line up of course and I’m hoping we will finish really high up in the National Championships.”

Rebecca Gleason- University of North Texas, soccer

The Red Ledger: What made you choose UNT for soccer?

Rebecca Gleason: “I chose to play there because their program has been pretty successful recently and it has been growing pretty fast. I went to a few of their practices and got to meet the coach and he’s a really good guy so that influenced my decision.”

Daniel Sefcik- Texas A&M University-Commerce, football

The Red Ledger: What led you to your college choice?

Daniel Sefcik: “I chose Texas A&M Commerce because I felt it was the best place for me to be. They’re a D2 school and are up and coming so I was interested to play there. The guys there told me that I could have a chance to play as a freshman so I will definitely be competing to get on the field and play as soon as possible.”
