10. Wolfenstein: The New Order  (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC)

Possibly the oldest series on this list, Wolfenstein has been given a huge blockbuster spot in the gaming industry. Because of the sub par sequel to the breathtaking Return to Castle Wolfenstein in 2009, Wolfenstein has lost many loyal fans.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is being developed by Machine Games, a Swedish company who has yet to develop a game. Fortunately, the E3 convention demo trailer makes this game look fantastic, and with the watchful eye of Bethesda Softworks as the games publisher, this beautiful looking alternative history game may become Game of the Year. Wolfenstein: The New Order will take place in 1960, fifteen years after the victorious Axis powers have taken over the entire world (Yes, even America). Players again take the role of BJ Blazkowicz, an Ex-American commando and resident Nazi Hunter. After spending the years since the Second World War  in a mental hospital in Poland, the story follows Blazkowicz on his revenge filled mission to liberate England from the German occupation. (Release Date: 2014 TBA)

9. Thief (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC)

Thief hasn’t had a sequel in ten years. Considering that there is a new Call of Duty game every year, this is almost unheard of. Thief  is a reboot of the older games, and focusses on stealth elements above anything else. Players control master thief named Garrett, who must use stealth as his main weapon, with superpower like attacks and other forms of violence needing to be used as sparingly as possible. (Release Date: February 25, 2014)

8. Dark Souls 2 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)

Ah, Dark Souls. Considered by many to be the hardest game ever made, Dark Souls 2 should be interesting to witness and play. The developer promises the same controls and an insane amount of difficulty that will live up to the first game. Dark Souls and Dark Souls 2 will not be related in story though. Dark Souls 2 will follow a new protagonist in a new setting, but the story is very close to that of the first game. (Release Date: March 11, 2014)

7. Titanfall (PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Titanfall is an a first person shooter like no other. Players can either fight in huge upright mechs or choose to fight it out on foot, classic FPS style. The game will be an exclusive on Microsoft consoles, missing a huge market on PS3 and PS4. Titanfall will exclusively be online multiplayer, but multiplayer maps will include plot, character development, and non-playable characters. (Release Date: March 11, 2014)

6. Infamous: Second Son (PS4)

Infamous: Second Son will be the third installment of the series, and the first installment on the PS4. Continuing the “good” ending from Infamous 2, Infamous: Second Son has us playing as a new protagonist in a huge open world setting, similar to GTA 5 with superpowers. (Release Date: March 21, 2014)

5. Destiny (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Destiny is Bungie softworks first game in more than ten years that hasn’t been part of the Halo franchise. This new FPS has massive multiplayer online elements, with awesome RPG like story. Bungie refers to it as a “shared world shooter”; a new genre that hasn’t been seen before. Destiny is set seven hundred years into the future in a new post apocalyptic setting following a period of exploration, peace, and technological advancement known simply as the “Golden Age”. In a universe where humans have spread out and colonized planets in the solar system, an event known as “the Collapse” saw the mysterious dissolution of these colonies, the end of the Golden Age, and mankind teetering on the brink of extinction. (Release Date: September 9, 2014)

4. Watch Dogs (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, PC)

Watch Dogs is an open world action adventure game  in which players control an vigilante named Aiden Pearce, who has the power to hack into various electronic devices tied to the city’s central operating system, allowing various methods for the player to solve numerous objectives. Examples include hacking into people’s phones to retrieve bank data and steal funds, triggering malfunctions in equipment to distract enemies, and hacking into traffic lights to cause collisions. Players can also receive information on civilians via augmented reality feeds, providing the player with information on demographics, health, and potential troublemakers. Combat is a combination of stealth and Assassins Creed like parkour, along with the mechanics of a cover-based shooter. (Release Date: June 30, 2014)

3. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

The Witcher games are technical marvels. Developed in Poland and based off Polish fantasy novels written by Andrzej Sapowski, the prime minister of Poland is so proud of his country’s production that he gave a copy to President Obama when he visited the country a few years ago. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will conclude the long journey of Geralt of Rivia, whose stories were portrayed in the earlier games.(Release Date: TBA)

2. The Elder Scrolls Online (PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One)

As with other games in The Elder Scrolls franchise, the game will be set in the continent of fictional Tamriel and feature a storyline indirectly connected with the other games. The game will be set a 1,000 years before the events of Skyrim and around 800 years before Morrowind and Oblivion, with the Daedric Prince Molag Bal appearing as the main antagonist as he attempts to pull all of Tamriel to his realm of Coldharbour. Using the great RPG elements of the single player only games and new MMO elements, The Elder Scrolls Online is sure to be a hit. (Release Date: April 4, 2014 for Mac and PC. June 2014 for PS4 and Xbox users.)
