Stressful Sunday studies

Homework over the weekend for many students may feel like a drag, resulting in the majority of the students procrastinating until Sundays; often making the last day of the week the most stressful.

“Friday nights are usually devoted to football games and I hang out with my friends on Saturdays,” senior Abby Hughey said. “So Sundays I devote to catch up on homework leaving me stressed the following Monday because I stay up until three or four a.m. the previous night.”

Procrastinating is a problem almost every student has encountered, yet is a hard habit to kick.

“[Stressful Sundays] definitely put a damper on my week,” senior Simon Herran said. “But I have better things to do over the weekend, so it all just ends up being done later.”

Waiting until the last minute is a problem that most people carry with them until college, yet it doesn’t always prove as useful as hoped.

“There’s a lot going on in college and sometimes I do end up waiting until the day before it’s due to do my essays and to study, usually Sundays, and it’s stressful,” alumni Cameron Barajas said. “I’ve never pulled an allnighter before, but I had to do it two days in a row for college, and I don’t recommend it.”

Although for some students the stress of doing all the homework in one night affects their grade, other students are able to keep up.

“I normally don’t even do my homework,” junior Brandon Provence said. “I still have good grades, but I definitely don’t do it until I actually have to.”

Although procrastination may not be the best approach, it’s a well established behavior for some students.

“I still have good grades,” Herran said. “Maybe I shouldn’t wait until Sunday to do it all, but it has really just become a habit at this point.”
