Everyone keeps talking about
This thing that they call “fun.”
I hear about it all the time,
But as for experience, I have none.

Is it an acronym to recall the structure
of an argument essay?
Or is it the name of a gas station,
Where I can watch my paycheck drain away?

Is it a charity league? A scholarship?
An AP class I’m not in?!
A new school club? A coupon code?
Is it something I can win?

It better not be that popular band
That keeps singing about being young.
I have no time to listen to that,
There’s homework to be done.

Ohhhhhh, hold on, I get it now,
It’s the physics equation for friction!
F=μN, it seems so obvious,
Although that doesn’t explain the addiction…

There has to be some other meaning,
I’ll look it up on my dictionary app.
But wait, my alarm is going off,
I was supposed to be taking a nap!!

There’s no more time to catch up sleep!
There’s so much to be done!
I need to finish these projects and essays,
Then maybe I’ll discover this “fun.”

Oh nevermind, it’s hopeless,
My to-do list is just too long.
Besides, no matter who “fun” is,
We probably wouldn’t get along.

But if someone could tell me a simple definition,
It’d be much to my delight.
But don’t tell me yet, because right now
I’ve got an editorial to write.
