A gift that doesn’t cost

People are often unaware of how much a few words can change someone’s day.  A simple sentence, a smile, can change the course of someone’s day. With finals in full swing, the dull days are dragging on. They’re seemingly endless. And I don’t know about you guys, but all the days seem to be running together, and I seem to be having a lot of bad days.

So today, I decided to do something a little different. I mean, surely, I’m not the only one that is feeling this way. I started to think, what would I want someone to say to me whenever I was having a bad day?
The answer is quite obvious. I would want them to say something nice to me. Sometimes, the worst days can turn into the best days just by someone complimenting you.
That being said, today I decided to compliment every single person I talked to in some way. Like, literally, every single person. At first, I thought this was going to be a challenge, but in the end, it really wasn’t. I mean, I notice good things about people all the time. I just don’t always say them.
And I’m not going to lie, sometimes it’s because of petty reasons like jealousy. I think, Oh, that person is so good, they don’t need to be complimented. And yes, it’s wrong to do stuff like that. But let’s be honest, we all do.
However, more often than not, I don’t compliment someone just because it doesn’t occur to me.
I mean, surely this person knows how cute their outfit is or how talented they are, right? Wrong. Sometimes, people need to hear good things about themselves because they don’t see how truly wonderful they are. They see a distorted version of themselves.

How we see ourselves is so much different from how others see us.
Christmas is a very happy time for many, but it can also be a very sad time. People are reminded of family members that they have lost, and overall Christmas is a time where we are all reminded of just how lonely we are.

Complimenting people brightens both your day and the day of whoever you compliment. I strongly suggest that you try complimenting people more often as it is extremely rewarding. You get to watch someone’s face light up, and someone’s smile brighten. Complimenting people makes me happy.
