Tips for the first six weeks- how to make a first impression that your teachers and classmates will never forget and you may never live down:
○ DON’T come prepared.
You don’t want to have all your supplies ready for each class. It’s much better to wait until the second six weeks to finally get all your materials.
○ DON’T make a good impression on your teachers.
Your teachers’ opinions of you really don’t matter. You only have to see them for 45 minutes every day so what’s the point of trying to impress them and show them you’re going to work hard?
○ DON’T get organized.
You definitely want to keep using that old way of organizing your stuff that really didn’t work for you last year. It’s so much easier to just shove papers in your backpack and hope you can find them later than take the time to put them in the right folders or binders.
○ DON’T read the syllabus.
The syllabus just tells you what you’re going to be doing all year and what the expectations for the class will be, so you really don’t need to read it. That stuff isn’t important and you’ll be just fine going through the year completely in the dark.
○ DON’T have any fun.
School is for work and learning, and neither of those can be fun. Ever. You simply can’t have fun in any of your classes even if you really enjoy them.
○ DO wear sweatpants every day.
You don’t want to show people that you care about how you present yourself to others. It will definitely let everyone know how much you care and how much work you’re willing to put into your schoolwork if you won’t even put work into your wardrobe.
