All you can eat pep rally

All+you+can+eat+pep+rally

“Man v. Food” is coming to campus today.  But instead, it’s men and woman v. food.  And it’s not random food, it’s chicken wings.  So, basically it’s nothing like the popular Travel Channel show.  Instead, it’s just a straight up food eating contest featuring assistant football coach Brandon Villarreal, girls varsity basketball coach Nick Gauer and English teacher Michele Riddle.

With competitive eating a popular fascination of some people, the competitors are eager to showcase their skills.  And for each one, preparation is key.

For Riddle, it’s a secret strategy that she won’t divulge.

For Gauer, practice is critical when it comes to success on the basketball court.  But for today’s contests, practice is happenstance.

“I went to Wing Stop the other night and coach Motsney thought I was doing some pre-wing eating exercises but I wasn’t, I was just eating wings,” Gauer said.  “I don’t need any training.”

For Villarreal, preparation is about his entire body of work.

“I’m fat,” Villarreal said.  “They’re going down.”

Gauer isn’t about to disagree.

“I’ve probably already given in and said he’s going to win but I’m going to give it my best,” Gauer said.  “I think coach V will eat about 14 pounds of chicken wings.”

Part of this afternoon’s pep rally festivities, the chicken wing eating contest is a fundraiser for the Gridiron Club, the football team booster club.
