A week in the life of: Da Krue

It’s Friday night and the football players are preparing to play, the band is playing loud, and the cheerleaders are pumping up the crowd. However, there is one group that can sometimes be forgotten. The Krue.

Carrying the school flags during games and participating in crazy antics, the Krue are a spirited group of guys that are a key component of Friday nights. A typical week for these boys is jam packed.

Monday

Monday is a day of preparation. The Krue studies the football teams’ opponents to see what types of distracting stunts and jokes they can come up with to cause any type of distraction.

“We try to come up with the craziest dances and jokes we can. Whatever will cause a lot of commotion,” junior Jordan Adkins said.

Tuesday

This day is dedicated to a day of game-speed practices and rehearsing the stunts that they came up with the day before.

“We go hard on Tuesdays. All of our effort gets put into our dances on this day because we have to be at our best by the end of the week,” senior Chris Goodrich said.

Even though this is one of their toughest days, all Krue members are willing to put what ever effort it takes to perfect their crazy antics.

Wednesday

This day is crucial because with only two days to go before the game, the Krue has to continue with practices to make sure they are at the top of their game.

“We always use this time to perfect our game time strategies. We’re all perfectionists I would say,” senior Tristan McDonald said.

They also use this day to make any last minute adjustments or additions to their game routines.

Thursday

Thursday is by far the most important day for Krue because this is the day when they come up with their pep rally dance routine for the week. The routines always consist of crazy outfits, loud music, and lots of strange dancing.

All of this preparation normally takes place at a Krue member’s house, which is then followed by a team sleepover to have a bonding experience before the big game.

Friday

Game day. This is the day to focus, buckle down, and prepare for what is to come later that night. All day during school the members are going through routines in their heads, perfecting them and preparing for kickoff.

“On Friday all of us get really pumped for later that night. It’s our favorite day of the week because we get to have fun at the football games and entertain the crowd,” Goodrich said.

When the school day comes to an end, a mere 3 hours before game time, the team gets together for a pre-game meal and pep talk. These meals usually consist of casual chatter and joking around to prepare for the game.

“Krue always goes out to eat together, then once we’re at the game we like to listen to some Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch on our Walkmans to get ready,” senior Drew Shafranek said. “Then we always do our team stretch in the front of the Majestics, then we sing our Krue song together, which is Hallelujah.”

At 7:30 p.m., the work becomes fun.

“We finally get to dance in front of the whole school. Definitely my favorite thing to do,” Shafranek said.
