At last.

The Prosper-Lovejoy rivalry is getting a fresh breath of air, after being fueled by Twitter feuds for the past year after the notorious football game where Lovejoy embarrassed Prosper with a 75-30 victory at Prosper’s home stadium.

But it’s a new year. Prosper used their powers of Taylor Swift to shake off their loss last season and come into this game with Bad Blood. The volleyball teams have already played a game where Prosper came away with it winning 3-1, but only because our girls were still wearing the state rings from last year, weighing down their hands a little and slowing down their reaction time.

For this game though, both students sections are expected to be electric; with Prosper students expected to be coming in droves, wearing their traditional wear of snapback Patagonia hats, Hurley t-shirts, cargo shorts, and crocs with a bedazzled ‘P’ on them.

The school rivalry as a whole has been dominated by Lovejoy, with a total record of 40-21 across all varsity sports. Both football teams will try to treat this game as just another game and not get too psyched out because of the rivalry.

For the student sections though, this is as good as it gets.

As the week has gone on, the Twitter beef between the two schools has continued to escalate. Countless tweets have been fired back and forth, most notably with half of the girl student populations at both schools throwing out the most scathing of insults by saying that the other school “has no class.”

But, as much as school rivalries can be fueled by social media, it really all comes down to what happens on the field. When the first whistle is blown, we will be one step closer to moving forward to excellence.
