On September 5th, the new Andy’s Frozen Custard on Greenville and Exchange opened. This was a huge addition to the area for the Lovejoy community, especially since the Sonic on Stacy closed down. Andy’s is the perfect place to fill that ice cream fix for you and your friends. I was very excited for the opening because the next closest Andy’s to the Lovejoy area was in Frisco, but now it’s just right around the corner!
The overall vibe of Andy’s was perfect. It has a retro 60s feel including a garage opening where you can walk up to order. There were families all around, laughing and sitting on the benches lined around waiting for their ice cream. Employees were all friendly and willing to help, the menu has an insane amount of options, and the prices are fair. Andy’s is very kid friendly while also appealing to teenagers and young adults. The drive through took a little longer because you have to wrap around the building twice, but it was nothing unreasonable.
Now I’ll get into the ice cream. Andy’s uses product quality and the two ice creams I tried were both unique and delicious! The menu is very diverse and will fit any sort of ice cream you are in the mood for. They have “concretes” which are similar to a blizzard, having a base ice cream and then additional add-ins that are mixed in completely. The “Jackhammer” takes it one step further and adds another filling or topping down the middle of the custard. A common filling is hot fudge, which I found surprisingly pleasant! It sounds like a lot, which is very rich, but the hot fudge slowly hardens with the ice cream and it gives it that extra yum factor. Another addition that gives the ice cream extra points, is the freshness. Andy’s emphasizes how their ice cream is served an hour after it is made, and all of the fresh bakery items including brownies or cookies are added in directly after being baked.
If you are thinking about going to Andy’s for a sweet treat, I highly recommend it. If the menu is overwhelming, I suggest trying the classic “Bootdaddy”, a vanilla custard blended with oreo, carmel, and hot fudge. You and your family should definitely go try it!
