The Red Ledger: How long have you been wrestling?
Sam Reynolds: I’ve been wrestling for a long time; since around fourth grade.
TRL: What is your favorite part of wrestling?
SR: It’s just you and one other person on the mat. So it’s just a fight, and it kind of exposes everything and makes you get after it. It also helped a lot with football.
TRL: What are your goals for the wrestling season?
SR: I want to win my third state championship this year.
TRL: What does a week in wrestling training look like?
SR: There’s practice everyday after school, and I do some extra practice every now and then. I also lift a lot in the mornings.
TRL: How do you balance wrestling with the rest of your life?
SR: I go to school during the day and after school I wrestle. A lot of my friends are in wrestling, so they’ve done it and understand it, so we all enjoy it.
TRL: What are your favorite memories of wrestling?
SR: Probably winning my two state championships, and just all of the past practices and tournaments I’ve done to get me there along with spending time with teammates.
TRL: What has been your biggest challenge this season, and how did you overcome it?
SR: Getting back into wrestling shape and getting back into the swing of things after what I’ve had to do earlier this year. I’ve been working hard and working to stay motivated for the state championship.
TRL: How did you stay motivated after you were diagnosed?
SR: The people I surround myself with really helped, like my coach and my family, they really helped me see what was going to happen after I bear it. They really pushed me and kept my mind clear and kept me straight on track.
TRL: How do you think that it affected you?
SR: It definitely was hard, especially missing out on time to stay in shape. I’m back now, and I surround myself with people to push me so I can win my third state championship
